What does the rest of the nation think about Texas Country Music?
How does everyone feel about this kind of music, Texas Country? And why? I feel it is way better than the Nashville stuff that’s all turning into pop recently. And I mean true Texas music, like:

To those of you who answered explaining what texas country is, I already know what it is. That’s pretty much all I listen to. I guess my main concern is why most of America continues to poison their mind with stuff that sounds like pop.
And Bandit, are you kidding me? The best Country music is coming out of the Levelland/Lubbock area. Austin is too weird, which is the way they should keep it, that’s fine with me. Wreck ‘em Tech!
I refuse to listen to Nashville/Pop Country anymore. It’s such a shame that it has become what it is. I was raised on Country music but it just isn’t the same. Texas/Red Dirt music is the way to go. The music is diverse and original and when you go to a show the artists will actually take the time to get to know and hang out with fans before and after the show.

I only know some of those off the list. Where I live, our local stations don’t play those artists. The only way I find out about great country groups like these is through sirius radio, and myspace, and word of mouth. I think texas country is so much better then the junk nashville is churning out. texas country artists are actually keeping it country, and they all have their own unique sound, you can actually tell them apart, unlike the clones from trashville.

Some from the list are actually from Oklahoma but I get your gist. I think the Country Music with the most soul is coming out of Austin right now. You could probably say it has been since Guy Clark, Townes Van Zandt, Willie, Waylon, et al in the 70’s, too.

I own a lot of those artist’s music. Why? Because it’s actually country music and for the most part, the majority of those artists are being true to the "music" and not the stardom they can get from Nashville. They depend on their fan base and frequent small venues because they want to connect to the people with their music. They write most of their songs and are based on traditional country music ideals…you know, they want you to listen to their words and connect. It’s not about making big bucks overnight…they are in it for the long haul. They are the current country artists that will be here tomorrow because they have something to bring to the table, musically, lyrically and artistically. Nashville is nothing but a money making machine, Texas music and musicians are about "music"

I love Texas Country/Red Dirt because it is original and it is real and it’s not the cookie cutter pop crap coming out of Nashville these days.
