Why are us brits always portrayed as posh/rich?
Or at least middle class…you never really hear of many movies on the working class.
In american movies/television programmes…and even predominately in a lot of our big budget movies.
E.g. Love Actually, Notting Hill, Bridget Jones, Four Weddings and a Funeral, The James Bonds, About A Boy, Wimbledon, etc etc

Sorry I watch Coronation street, and the impression I get is that you are all a bunch of weird, pub drinking, ugly people, working at p!ssy jobs..

Stereotypes make money, i doubt a film about someone on the dole with 5 kids, no job and an asbo would make much money at the box office.

Because of American movies and Hugh Grant, like you said. If you watch films like This Is England, they do portray the working class very well, they are extremely good films. But gritty realistic films about violence in Britain aren’t as popular as Hugh Grant as his "British charm".

coz the americans love the establishment and even try and duplicating it in some circles, even more so in the 1920’s

history is something americans as a whole love and our history (england scotland , wales and northern Ireland are very appealing to them)

mary poppins is a film that shows both side in as very clever way even if a y@nk was terrible

it’s a status thing and they love it

thats really stereotypical. its annoying too. but i guess some people still think of the past that british were rich and powerful so i guess thats why

Because the British aristocracy has long fascinated the world. But there are movies about the working class. For example, most of the characters in "The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill But Came Down a Mountain" were working class.

But I have found that these films tend to present the English as belonging to upper-middle classes and the Welsh, Scots and Irish as lower classes. How much this is a reflection of the truth on the ground, I have no idea.

This actually a very good question. Much of the world is in poverty. There are many poor people who have nothing, but one thing they do have is a TV. They see Britain as a wealthy country and it is a far cry from their own lives. This is one of the main reasons there is too much immigration. They see it and they want a part of it.

that is a really good question!!!!.
i think it’s just sterotypes like most people think american girls are like Laruen Conrad, or all french people eat frogs.
once people get a sterotype in thier head it’s hard to get them out.
(i however don’t sterotype!!!!)
